The Peralta Report is an online news magazine for the Peralta Colleges. The website features stories about College of Alameda, Berkeley City College Laney College and Merritt College and the District.

In the summer of 2009, the Bay Area News Group released a series of articles alleging corruption, mismanagement and a lack of fiscal oversight at the Peralta Colleges. Unfortunately, for many years – presumably due to budget cuts – the only regular media coverage of the Peralta Board of Trustees was by alternative and student media like the Berkeley Daily Planet and the Laney Tower student newspaper.

Meanwhile, recent budget cuts have led to the elimination of all but one Public Information Officer positions at the four colleges.

This has resulted in an imbalance of news stories, only highlighting the district’s inexcusably poor leadership, but neglecting the amazing achievements of students, faculty and staff.

The Peralta Report strives to deliver timely, honest and unbiased news and information about the Peralta Colleges.

The Peralta Report is edited by Laney College student Reginald James. James formerly edited the Laney Tower, Laney College’s student newspaper. He has also served two years as a student member of Peralta’s Board of Trustees.
